Off-Road Vintage Go-Kart Kit

This is definitely a solid built frame but there is just way to many cons about it for the price you pay as you build yourself and supply your own engine. I had nothing but problems from the start of assembly like spindles welded not straight and the brake caliper bracket welded at a angle not inline with rotor so the caliper sits crookedly on the rotor. Go power sports was great as they sent out a new set of spindles but had the exact same problem as the originals. So I ended up cutting, straightening, and welding them correctly to fix. The brakes do not work at all even after I cut and welded the holder bracket perfectly inline, it’s a mechanical caliper and it’s pointless so I have no brakes even after adjusting caliper. I’m 5.9 and your feet are completely in the way of the steering tie rods when turning. It’s almost dangerous because you end up smashing the throttle down when turning. I purchased this because I returned my last China made Coleman kart as it kept falling apart so i payed good $$ for a USA made and I’m quite let down. I should have just built my own.

Ordered the vintage go kart kit. The live axel I received was machined to big. The bushings, sprocket, brake caliper, tires wouldn’t fit. The through bolts for the spindles were also to big. I emailed twice and after a week haven’t received a response. I called and the gentleman said I would receive a call back or email the following day. A week later and I still haven’t received a call back or an email. This was a fairly large purchase and a person would really think the customer service would be a little better to resolve the issues. I understand being busy. However it shouldn’t take a week to resolve issues with a purchase or respond to a customer.

Look in the box I got mine and a lot of the the nuts and bolts where gone including the disc break and much more so look in the box and make sure you have everything

This kit is great, but I had some parts missing, some parts that didn't fit, and the engine barely fit on the mounting plate, which didnt leave much room for chain adjustment. I'm not sure if the mounting plate got welded on backwards or what, but there is no room to move it forward or backwards. The holes for the pedals were not large enough for the shouldered bolt to fit through so I had to drill those out some (easy enough). The cover plate for the steering wheel was missing as well. I just put it together yesterday, so I haven't made claim yet, but from everything I have heard GPS will make it right double quick. They were great with the sales process and helped me make the right selection for me. One thing they need to put with this kit is the gas and air filter vent kit. The torque converter cant bolt on with the EPA box on it, so when you remove it you dont have anything to vent the holes with. Just something easy to add to the kit to make it complete.

This frame is solid! Such a fun build and not complicating. Waiting for the engine to arrive so I can give this baby a go! Definitely recommend!

My grandson and I wanted to build an electric go-kart together…sort of fun learning experience. We started with the Vintage Go-Kart kit from gopowersports because it seemed like it had everything we needed to get started, and gave us good flexibility to add what we needed to adapt to electric power. We were not disappointed.

The kit is very good quality. Since it ships unpainted, you can see that the materials and the welds are very good quality. The rear axle, brakes, wheels are all superb. Our kit accidentally came with two gas pedals and no brake pedal, but we sent a note to gopowersports and they sent us a brake pedal within a few days. No harm, no foul.

Our project is powered by three 1800W 48V electric motors, and high-density lithium-ion batteries. Batteries are each about the physical size of a car battery, and we have three of them, so we welded up two mounting trays that sit outside of the kit frame about even with the driver. The third battery is mounted under the steering column. We had to enclose & pad them because lithium-ion batteries are susceptible to combustion on impact, but it was easy enough to weld up a little cage and line it with pool noodle foam.

We made an electrical box & control panel for each of the motor controllers & throttle and mounted them behind the seat. The existing kit motor mount plate worked perfectly for mounting three electric motors.

We’ll put a video of the completed project on YouTube shortly, but none of it could have been possible without using this go-kart frame as the solid foundation. We definitely recommend!

Bought two of the off road kart kits for my pre-teen boys. We built them over the course of two days and went with a basic rattle-can paint job. Needed to extend the engine mounting slots on one frame - and bolt on some wood 4x4 blocks to the pedals ;^) setting the alignment is easy to do, but requires some trial and error to get dialed in.
I set the governor to about one third the throttle range and they are still screaming fast! Love em!
These have so much more power than the 5 hp / centrifugal clutch go kart I had as a kid.
These are just flat out fun!
