The "Buy It For Life" Investment

If you make the investment in a disc clutch, you could theoretically have it for life. Unlike a standard drum clutch that you simply throw in the trash when it burns out, a disc clutch is designed to be fully serviceable. While technology is always changing and new products will enter the market, a disc clutch will serve you much longer than a standard drum setup.

Understanding the Wear Items

While the clutch assembly itself will last indefinitely, certain internal and external components are designed to take the brunt of the friction. The following pieces are considered replaceable wear items:

• The Discs: The internal friction discs will eventually wear down over time and need replacing.

• The Sprocket: The sprocket is a standard wear item that is easily replaceable.

• The Chain: Just like your standard maintenance routine, you will periodically need to replace your chain as it stretches and wears.

You can help extend the life of these components significantly by regularly applying a little bit of chain lube.

The Cost of Rebuilding vs. Replacing

The true value of a disc clutch comes down to its serviceability. When those internal parts finally wear out, you do not need to buy a brand-new clutch system. You can replace all of the internal pieces that wear out for $100 or less. Once rebuilt with fresh components, the clutch will perform exactly like it is brand new again.
