Is the Lil' Rascal 98 Build Right for You?

  • Build Time: Plan on a weekend. Allow extra time if you paint or powder coat a bare-steel frame.
  • Skill Level: Beginner-friendly. If you're comfortable with hand tools, you can build it. Minor fitting may be needed, so mock everything up before you paint. Our Lil' Rascal 98 build video walks through every step.
  • What You'll Do: Assemble the frame, forks, wheels and hydraulic brake, then prep the 98cc engine with the included header pipe and air filter (the stock muffler, air box and tank come off) and mount the engine, clutch and chain. No welding required.
  • Tools You'll Need: 8mm, 10mm, 11mm and 13mm sockets and wrenches (including a 13mm deep socket), a 3/4" ratchet and wrench for the neck bolt and front axle, 9/16" and 11/16" for the rear axle, a Phillips screwdriver, needle-nose pliers, wire cutters, a small Allen key for the clutch set screw, a hammer for the neck bushings and a drill with an 11/64" bit for the seat. A #420 chain breaker is handy, since chain length can vary. An impact driver speeds things up.
  • Sized for Kids, Fits Adults Too: An 18" seat height makes it easy for smaller riders, and the 31" handlebars fit many adults. It's a classic first mini bike to build together.

This comprehensive DIY kit combines our American-made Lil' Rascal frame with a dependable 98cc gasoline engine, 6-inch wheels, hydraulic braking and the essential drivetrain, fuel-system and control components needed to complete the build.

The Lil' Rascal was designed to capture the look and feel of a classic old-school mini bike in a compact package. Its low seat height makes it approachable for smaller riders, while its frame proportions and tall handlebars can also accommodate many adult riders. The main frame is constructed from heavy-duty 7/8-inch OD steel tubing with a .120-inch wall.

This is an unassembled mini bike kit intended for customers who enjoy building, maintaining and customizing their own equipment. Assembly, adjustment and a complete safety inspection are required before operation.

Assembly & Pre-Ride Inspection

This mini bike is shipped as an unassembled kit. The customer is responsible for proper assembly, cable routing, chain alignment, brake adjustment, fastener torque and final inspection. Check that the throttle returns freely, the engine shuts off correctly and the brakes operate properly before every ride.

Recheck all fasteners, axle hardware, wheel hardware, chain tension and brake components after the initial break-in period. Routine inspection and maintenance are required for safe operation.
